§ Information » Kubo Tite

Kubo Taito, or Kubo Tite, was born under the name Kubo Noriako on June 26th 1977 in the Hiroshima prefecture in Japan. Kubo started creating manga early in High School. He entered a magazine contest, but did not win. Though lost, he got the attention of the magazine’s editors to work together on some projects. Zombie Powder was Kubo’s first serial to run in Shueisha’s Weekly Shounen Jump. However, it discontinued after four volumes. Some time later, Kubo came with his newest creation: Bleach. Apparently Bleach experienced some trouble in the beginning of getting published. Nonetheless, lucky for all of us, Bleach got published by Shueisha in the end.

Why is Kubo some sort of a genius? Considering his age and how relatively early in his life he started with drawing manga, the least you can say is that this man’s got a talent for graphic art, design and story telling. Looking at the huge collection of characters Kubo has come up with until now in Bleach, it shows that he’s able to muster up all kinds of personalities and add to that a fitting appearance. Another aspect that I think appeals to the audience, is the fact that Kubo dares to incorpate a high level of dork into the story and the characters. If you look at your average action hero and yes I mean the likes of Rambo, Rocky (or that Terminator machine) or even James Bond: it’s their ultimate coolness and apparent unbreakableness that makes people admire them. Kubo Tite however, approaches this from a whole other angle. His hero’s and heroine’s are people with very obvious flaws (clumsy, nerdy, loner, social outcast, you name it) that go against any trademarks of a traditional hero. After all, nerds can’t possibly be cool action hero’s right? ... Wrong! From reading Bleach it becomes clear that being a huge dork doesn’t exclude one from being a cool person or being able to do heroic deeds. In a way, these personality trades humble that certain manga or anime character and we like them even more for it as a result. Also, the kind of characters who have their human flaws stand closer to reality and we can identify with them easier. Of course Kubo is not the first person to use this strategy of character setting and story telling, but he does take it to a whole other level.

In other words, we’re all glad that Kubo is around and able to showcase his talent like this. And let’s just ignore the fact that Kubo, at his age has achieved more than an average person his age has done.

As for his involvement in any activities that branched off from Bleach, Kubo is behind the original story of the adapted Bleach Rock musical. He has also lent his creativity to come up with new characters for the released Bleach OVA’s. Not only that, for the Bleach OVA Memories in the rain, Kubo Tite took on the job as seiyuu for Kon’s character.
