How it all began…
Meet Kurosaki Ichigo, your 15-year old, orange-haired, quick-tempered High School student, living in a peaceful place called Karakura Town. Ichigo gets himself into fights often because older students pick on him for his different hair colour. Many think he bleaches his hair on purpose, though the firey orange is 100% genetically his. Luckily, Ichigo is quite strong so he can save himself pretty well in these fights. As long as he can remember, Ichigo has been able to see ghosts. One evening, he sees a Shinigami, or Death God, enter his room. Meet Kuchiki Rukia: full-time Shinigami. In search for a Hollow, she stumbled into Ichigo’s room. The first reaction to this encounter from Ichigo is disbelief. Of course, who else wouldn’t react like that. After all, Shinigami can’t possibly exist, right ....?
Rukia discovers a few moments later that the Hollow she was looking for, is targeting the Kurosaki household. While Rukia and Ichigo have been quarelling upstairs, the Hollow started its assault on Ichigo’s younger sisters and father downstairs. Then suddenly, Rukia realizes to her shock that the Hollow’s main target is Ichigo. Already at this first meeting, she senses that Ichigo is amazingly strong. An apparently arrogant punk, but noble to heart, Ichigo accepts his responsibility; if the Hollow wants him, fine, then this fight is his! However, Ichigo still doesn’t know half about how to deal with a Hollow. Rukia realizes this and throws herself in to block the Hollows attack on what it intended to be Ichigo. Seriously injured, Rukia indicates that she is not able to fight this Hollow anymore. Instead, she offers Ichigo a deal: he can take half of her powers and with it, defeat the Hollow. Ichigo, for the sake of his beloved familiy, takes on the challenge. And that is where it all went right .... (or wrong, suppose it depends on how you look at it)
Instead of taking half of Rukia’s power, Ichigo takes all. Now geared with a Soul Cutter and fitting Shinigami attire, Ichigo defeats the Hollow. End of story, so Ichigo thought. Soon he finds out Rukia cannot return to the place she came from (Soul Society) because she lost all of her spiritual power to Ichigo. She has to remain in her replacement body here in the living world until her powers are restored. With Rukia out of the picture, who is going to fight the Hollows in the meantime? That is where Rukia comes with an idea: Ichigo has to take her place for the time being. After some hesitation and declines, Ichigo eventually gives in. From that moment on, Ichigo has a new part-time job: replacement Shinigami.
Due to Ichigo’s crazy strength, some weird events involving Hollows and a Quincy take place in Karakura Town. Some of Ichigo’s classmates get involved. Influenced by Ichigo’s surfacing power, they find themselves possessing spiritual power they never realized it was within them before. Pretty much from then on, the relatively peaceful lives of Ichigo and his friends in Karakura Town are turned upside down.
This introduction is only the tip of a gigantic iceberg called Bleach’s storyline. If you are interested and want to find the rest out for yourself, then I think it’s pretty obvious what’s left for you to do.
