Ever since its beginnings in Weekly Shounen Jump and the subsequent fandom gain,
Bleach has sparked a string of commercial activity in- and outside its country of creation.
Bleach inspires many, so it seems.
As a hint towards the extent this inspiration goes, an overview of major Bleach related developments in the animanga entertainment world.
Bleach in Japan
- August 2001: Bleach manga serialization starts in Shueisha's Weekly Shounen Jump in Japan.
- January 2002: First Bleach compilation is published in tankoubon form by Shueisha in Japan.
- October 2004: Debut of the Bleach anime on Japanese television, aired by TV Tokyo.
- August 2005: First performance of the rock musical adaptation of Bleach in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
- December 2006: Release of the Bleach Movie: Memories of Nobody (anime).
Bleach related activity outside Japan
- February 2004: Viz announces its licence for Bleach (manga) and its subsequent release in North America in May that year.
- July 2005: Tokyopop Germany announces a collaboration with Shueisha Japan and Viz Media on publishing Bleach.
- March 2006: Viz Media official press releases say that said company has become the licensor for all Bleach related broadcasts,
home video's and merchandising in Europe, Oceania and North and South America.
- September 2006: Bleach anime debutes on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim in North America.
- September 2006: Score entertainment announces its licence for the release of a Bleach Card Trading Game. The TCG is scheduled to be released in 2007.
