Prologue: Loveless — Theme

Loveless, you can see it as an avant-garde fairytale and nothing more, and then it’s just that. But for the ones who like to analyze and look further into the storyline, another layer surfaces.

Besides the supernatural and the wonderland of spell casting, Loveless bears a very current theme. It unmistakably, though not at first sight, points towards some issues of today’s society. Domestic abuse, the pressure of prestige and that virginity thing: matters all people, from children to adults struggle with, but nobody likes to openly talk about. The manga subconsciously handles these topics and in a sophisticated way portrays how individuals learn to cope with the impact of things past, and the inevitable loneliness it brings along.

Loveless in the first place is your entertaining well-done fantasy story, but it also offers an remarkably observing eye on society trials we individually have to cope with, while nobody else has a clear answer for you on how to do so.
