IV. Unbroken Wings: Soubi & Kio

Up until Soubi met Ritsuka, Kio was most likely the person most close to him. Kio is also an art student studying at the same university. He can be seen together with Soubi during painting classes. He appears to be one of the few people who Soubi hangs out with after school.

Kio describes his friend as a really good guy with an over-protection obsession, tall figure and nice face, and one who is very artistic. Kio also observes that before Soubi met Ritsuka, he was like a living corpse. Kio sees Soubi as someone who has no fear in his eyes or shows that he’s in pain. It seems like Kio is a bit more attached to Soubi than vice versa. When he finds out about Soubi’s interest in Ritsuka, he feel jealousy. Even then, Kio is the kind of friend to whom Soubi can talk to when he’s down. Soubi is certainly not someone who will pour out his feelings in front of everyone, but Kio seems the person in front of whom he can.

Though loud and behaving like a jealous housewife at times, Kio is a good friend to Soubi. He tells Soubi things he needs to know, for instance, in their conversations with each other about Soubi’s relationship with Ritsuka, Kio tells Soubi that he should improve his social skills with Ritsuka, as he knows Soubi lacks when it comes to communicating with people. Kio has known Soubi already for a while. He appears to know Seimei and how Soubi was treated by him.

For Soubi’s sake, Kio is determined to tell Ritsuka the truth about his brother. The two of them get into an argument right after the first time they meet; Kio telling Ritsuka ugly things about Seimei, while Ritsuka shouts back that Kio is lying. Even when Ritsuka turns to Soubi to ask if Kio is lying or not, Soubi says that Kio is lying. Though unwillingly, Soubi might have hoped for Kio to tell Ritsuka about how he was treated by Seimei, something he himself apparently couldn’t bring up to do.
