III. Sunlit Sanctuary: making memories

The first encounter between Soubi and Ritsuka is rather sudden. As soon as Ritsuka runs out of the school yard gates, he is grabbed by a guy who introduces himself as a former friend of Ritsuka’s older brother Seimei. To Ritsuka, this is pretty much enough to allow the stranger to accompany him. Together they go to a park and take pictures, or as Ritsuka likes to call it — they make memories together.

Ritsuka has the habit of ’making memories’ because according to him, without the pictures, Soubi would inevitably forget about him. Pretty quickly Soubi develops an interest in Ritsuka. He is surprised by Ritsuka’s actions and wonders what kind of kid Ritsuka exactly is. Both his behavior as words intrigue him. Up until their first meeting, the only information Soubi had on Ritsuka was his name and a description.

Already at their first meeting, Soubi says he is a Fighter and declares his love to Ritsuka. He would protect Ritsuka and do anything for him. If it is done on purpose or out of plain spontaneity, the words spoken by Soubi to Ritsuka are about how he would give his body and soul to him, he would lay down his life and fight for him. Ritsuka upon hearing these declarations of courtship is heavily confused.

How serious Soubi takes his own spoken words is to be doubted. However he does seem to be captured by the child, as he himself thinks: ’Those eyes could make me throw away anything, pleading eyes that would forgive anything.’ Perhaps Soubi then already senses that Ritsuka is different than Seimei. After the suffering from the darkness of Seimei’s personality, Soubi might already then see Ritsuka as new form of hope for him to get over his troublesome past.
