II. Starless Nights: the principal

Soubi attended Shichisei Gakuen before university and graduated from there. It is a special battle boarding school, part of the Nanatsu no Tsuki organization, and the place where Fighters are being trained and prepared for the day they will be joined by their Sacrifice. Only people bound by Destiny (the ones that have an extra, destined name), are allowed to enter the school. At the same time, Shichisei Gakuen serves as a portal, as it is the only way to pass through before reaching Nanatsu no Tsuki.

A glasses wearing guy with half–long hair, commonly referred to as Ritsu–sensei by colleagues, is both principal and teacher at this school. Ritsu–sensei has an interest in gifted students and organizes special tests held to pick out skilled students for the school. Young Soubi himself was trained to become a Fighter by Ritsu. Soubi’s flashbacks to his lessons are filled with fear and quite some pain. Judging from the fact that Soubi still had ears, he must’ve been only a few years older than Ritsuka, probably about 15 years back then. He was trained very rigorously according to his sensei’s ’get used to pain’ philosophy. This basically meant that Soubi, bare back and facing the wall, would receive multiple whips dealt by his teacher, while being taught the following lesson: “Pain is the trigger of fear, you mustn’t be afraid of pain, so get used to it.” — and so he did.

Nowadays when someone makes a reference to pain or being hurt, either on or off the battle field; Soubi replies that he is ’used to pain’, or that he ’has known worse pain’. It has even come as far as Ritsuka asking him if he liked pain, upon which Soubi replies that he doesn’t like it, he hates it, actually…
