IV. Unbroken Wings: Soubi & Yuiko

Yuiko and Soubi together makes polite sympathy. Already at the start, Yuiko can get along very well with Soubi. She is one of the few individuals of relatively recent acquaintance, that Soubi can talk to freely without distrust or lying tendencies. Yuiko often phones Soubi just to chat, to tell him about school or Ritsuka.

One day, after Ritsuka being absent from school because his mother locked him inside the house, Yuiko decides to stop by his house for a chat and deliver him some freshly plucked flowers. When she rings the door bell, it is Ritsuka’s mother who answers. Yuiko gets the one-way ’you’re not welcome’ treatment and the door is slammed in her face.

After this, Yuiko starts crying, but on her way back she bumps into Soubi. They decide to sit down on a bench, eat ice cream and talk. Yuiko is very thankful for Soubi being there to listen to her, and Soubi admits that she makes him feel like he’s a good person, to which she responds that Soubi is a good person.

The whole scenario seems rather random, but the air and feeling of the moment in the story is relaxed, unguarded and something I think everyone would wish for in a friendship. These conversations with Yuiko quite obviously do Soubi good and leave him to think positively about himself. He smiles a lot then, too.
